Current AFS teams are finding innovative ways to fill roles and accomplish tasks.
Key steps in managing roles and responsibilities:
- Utilize “co” positions. When a role feels overwhelming or requires mentoring, having a second person in the position can be an excellent choice. Consider Co-Chairs or Co-Hosting Coordinator’s.
- Expand to a Committee approach. Several teams have found success using steering committees, or hosting and sending teams.
- Create new positions. Diversity Coordinators and Associate Support Coordinators are both examples of teams seeing a need in their own area and creating roles to meet the need.
- Implement Task Based Management. One of the most well received AFS initiatives in recent years has been the task based approach to managing team activities. That old saying is true, many hands really do make light work so use the task-based approach to get more people involved.
