AFS encourages all volunteers to be involved in identifying and working with host families since hosting exchange students is at the core of the AFS mission. For an overview of the Hosting Cycle, please see the Hosting Overview.
AFS provides many guidelines to help ensure that each student gets a family and so that each Team of volunteers is guaranteed students from a variety of countries with an appropriate mix of genders, interests, and placement needs.
AFS hosts students from a few different programs including YES, CB, and FLEX. All other students are referred to as Core students. BP students largely act just like Core students. Please refer to the Hosting Programs Overview to learn more about all of our Hosting Programs.
In addition, all of the details about how student applications are released can be found in the Hosting Application Distribution Process article which includes important dates.
