The Volunteer Interview Form was updated on March 1, 2012 to include a new searchable question format to indicate volunteer skills, talents and interests. Below are instructions to search for these items in Global Link via a Service Case Search or through a Report. Keep in mind that these searches will not include people who started volunteering before March 1, 2012 AND people's skills, talents and interests change over time. To acquire a more complete and current inventory of volunteer skills and interests, you may want to conduct a survey of your team members.
A Service Case Search for Interests or Skills
1. Go to the Service Case search screen and input the following criteria:
- Service Type: Volunteering
- Area Team: Your Team's Name
- Max results: Show All
- Service Status: "Open" will only show people currently volunteering or applying to volunteer or choose "All" to also include past volunteers and volunteer applicants
2. Next you will need to add a filter.
Choose either “Volunteer Skills/Talents” or “Volunteer Activity Interest” depending on what information you are seeking:
Note the Search Type must be "contains" and the “Value” must match the text in the Volunteer Interview Form exactly to pull the list.
Here is a list of the checkbox field names from the Volunteer Interview Form for your reference:
Skills/Talents: Organizing, Listening, Conflict Resolution, Public Speaking, Leading, Training/Teaching, Planning, Record Keeping, Motivating Others, Intercultural Education, Computer skills, Written/Oral Communication, Other
Interests: General Interest: Working with Hosted Students and Families, Hosting Recruitment, Family Interviewing, Hosted Student/Family Liaison, Hosted Student/Family Orientations, Hosting with AFS, General Interest: Working with Sending, Sending Recruitment, Sending Retention, Sending Student Interviews, Sending Student Orientations, General Interest: Community/School Outreach, AFS-USA Presentations, Event Assistance, Returnee Positions, Driving AFS students, Fundraising, Training, Volunteer Recognition, Volunteer Recruitment, Other
3. After you "Add" your filter, Global Link will bring you back to the main search page and you should see your Filter added. You can add more than one filter too. And then select Search to see your results.
A Report for Volunteer Interests or Skills
Another way to search for Volunteer Interests or Skills is to go to the Reports section of Global Link and look for the View Interview Form under Vol Reg and Training Reports. As of June 2017 it looks that this report may not be working correctly. AFS Staff are working to resolve the issue. Contact email@example.com with questions.
Once selected a new page will display where you will select the Interests, Skills, or Talents you seek from the drop down menus:
