This three part course introduces new and returning Host Families to the key roles and responsibilities heading into an AFS exchange experience.
In order to satisfy AFS-USA’s requirements for this training every host family must complete each of the modules described below and pass the short quiz that follows each one. Per Department of State regulations, the Host Family Orientation can only be completed after a host family has been fully screened, including completing their in-home interview and background checks.
Please keep in mind that in order for our system to register that the training has been completed, each slide must be reviewed.
Introduction to AFS: This is the first module in a three-part series introducing you to hosting an international exchange student with AFS.
What is Culture?: In this module we introduce you to the topic of Cultural Learning, as well as ways for you to connect with your hosted exchange student as they experience a new culture in your home.
Cultural Adjustment & Hosting Best Practices: We'll conclude by introducing you to the Cultural Adjustment process that people typically experience when transitioning to life in a new culture.
