Volunteers need to be recognized for a job well done and for their hard work and dedication to the organization. The presentation "Giving Gold Stars" focuses on how teams can make sure that they are recognizing the outstanding work of the volunteers throughout their team and show their appreciation in a variety of ways. This presentation summarizes the ideas that resulted from a presentation given in Minneapolis at the 2019 Volunteer Summit.
Beyond the conversation of recognizing volunteers for their contributions to the local AFS community, it was important also to think about how schools can be recognized for their efforts in hosting AFS exchange students, integrating the students into the school environment, promoting intercultural learning in their classrooms, encouraging students to study abroad and so much more. Please read through the many ideas that volunteers from around the country shared that are positive mechanisms for recognizing volunteers and schools in their communities to further solidify long-lasting relationships.
