The AFS-USA Global Educator Newsletter was launched in late 2019 as a means to communicate with all of the educators who want to stay connected with AFS. The intention of the newsletter is to give educators access to resources that will inspire them to internationalize their curriculum, motivate their students to engage in study abroad, and build a network of globally-minded educators who will share best practices with each other.
The Global Educator newsletter is sent quarterly (approximately January, April, August, October) and each edition has a theme connected to what is happening in the world or one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Each edition may include:
- Opportunities for teachers to connect with educators abroad
- Opportunities and/or scholarships for educators to participate in professional development
- Teaching resources that are relevant and tied to that time of the school year
- Intercultural learning activities that can be incorporated into a variety of subject areas easily
- AFS scholarship information that can be shared with students
- Information about how AFS-USA can partner with them.
If you have an educator that you would like to see highlighted or featured in an upcoming edition of The Global Educator, please reach out to Jill Woerner, Director of Education & External Outreach to Schools, with a little bit about the teacher and the teacher’s contact information.
This newsletter is a fabulous tool to use when connecting with schools. Below you will find the previous editions that can be hyperlinked to an email to an educator that you would like to help connect with AFS-USA.
If there is something that is particularly relevant for an educator at a school you work with, you are encouraged to highlight just that section before emailing it to an educator! You are encouraged to share this widely with educators as it has elements that are applicable to educators in a variety of roles and across many grade levels. Please share with your elementary and middle school educators as those environments are our pipeline of host families and future study abroad participants.
If you are curious if an educator you know has received The Global Educator, please look up the “Person” in Global Link and check their Contact Log. If the educator receives the newsletter, you’ll see the newsletter titles in the “Subject” area of the communications. If you encounter an educator that would like to receive the newsletter, you can direct them to sign up on the AFS-USA website or you can contact your School Partnerships staff person to ask them to sign the teacher up on your behalf. Please make sure you have the educator’s blessing to sign them up!
