Please advise the host family to have the student seen by a physician to be evaluated for any type of illness should the circumstances warrant such attention. The host family should be reminded to notify their liaison, as soon as possible if the student and/or host family member needs to go to the hospital. The liaison should then follow appropriate reporting protocols by alerting the local Volunteer Support Coordinator, Participant Support Specialist, and the AFS Duty Officer (if after hours).
Should you learn that a student has been diagnosed with COVID-19 please notify your Volunteer Support Coordinator, and Support Staff as quickly as possible. Please also request that the host family follow government guidelines for reporting and quarantine accordingly. Your Support volunteer leaders and Support Staff will assist in advising appropriate next steps depending on the circumstances of the situation.
Additionally, we encourage volunteers to familiarize themselves with their Area Team Crisis Plan (See link at the top of your MyAFS Team section here) for specific emergency team contacts and preparedness resources.
