For placements for the 2021-22 school year, volunteers may conduct a virtual interview if necessary. The family’s application will be accepted and transferred to the partner with a virtual interview. A follow-up interview in the home must be conducted prior to the participant's departure from their home country. Please see this MyAFS News announcement from February 2021 for further information.
Please note that in cases where a host family had a virtual interview during the screening process, and then were visited by a different volunteer for a follow-up interview in the home, the volunteer who did the follow-up in the home is not eligible to conduct the 30/60-day visit. The volunteer who conducted the original virtual interview may do so.
If a follow-up interview in the home is not possible due to COVID-19, the second interview may be permitted to be done electronically if recorded, in line with temporary Department of State guidance. These exceptions will only be granted in limited circumstances where the team has demonstrated they are not permitted to interview the family in person due to local, state or federal COVID-19 restrictions. This exception must be pre-approved by RMCQA staff and the second virtual interview must be recorded, with explicit consent from the host family. Any exceptions will not be granted until closer to the student’s departure date. Please contact your Regional Field Specialist with any questions.
