The students who we expect to be on our program this fall have been told that this year will be very different than other years. They are aware that they are coming to the US during a worldwide pandemic, and they know that family life, school life, and travel opportunities may not be what they had envisioned when they began their AFS application.
Those of us who have seen former students return for visits know that, at its core, the hosting experience is about the connection between a student and a family. These relationships can be built even during the time of COVID-19 and will far outlast the pandemic.
The AFS-USA Board of Directors has endorsed the plan for AFS-USA to host and send significantly fewer students for 2020-21, and to budget accordingly.
