The Department of State (DoS) has indicated all required in-person contacts and in-home visits for the 20-21 cycle must be done in-person. A video contact or visit will not suffice.
If a liaison is uncomfortable or unable to conduct an in-person/in-home contact or visit, they should work with team leadership to identify an alternate volunteer to fulfill the requirement.
As a reminder, several requirements can all be fulfilled at once by doing an in-home visit within the month of the student’s arrival. If completed compliantly, that visit would be the only required in-person interaction until the spring semester:
- Host Family 30/60 Day Visit
- Host Family Fall In-Person Contact
- Student In-Person Arrival Contact
- That month’s Host Family and Student contacts
Please note that in cases where a family had a virtual interview during the screening process, and then were visited by a different volunteer for a follow-up visit in the home, the volunteer who did the follow-up in the home is not eligible to conduct the 30/60-day visit. The volunteer who conducted the original virtual interview may do so.
