AFS encourages volunteer teams to consider assigning a co-liaisons to work in tandem or as back-up with a primary liaison. This way the student and host family can understand that in the event the student and/or host family is unable to connect with a primary liaison, for whatever reason, they can always reach out to a back-up liaison (in addition to the Support volunteer leaders in your team). Adopting a co-liaison system may also provide liaisons with the opportunity to serve as additional systems of support for one another and sounding boards in times of more complex situations which may transpire.
This is not a requirement, but rather something we encourage all teams hosting to consider in ensuring consistency in availability and offering quality support.
