A good way to have the participant begin to analyze their experience and think what they would like to do in the future is a Reflection Essay, or Reflective Essay. This exercise can be used both proactively and/or reactively depending on context. The Reflective essay allows the participant to share their general concerns, expectations and motivations. The reflection exercise helps set the tone that the participant is not an idle bystander in the support process but an active agent.
