An 'AFS Trip' refers to any Area Team domestic/regional/local group trip that is chaperoned/hosted by volunteers and/or host families.
AFS trips are discouraged at this time due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19. Should a team be considering an AFS trip, we highly recommend consulting with host parents to gauge their comfort level with their student participating in the trip, before any related information is shared with students. Should an AFS trip take place, all state, local, and territorial guidelines regarding travel and in-person gatherings should be followed.
In addition, we encourage teams to consider additional steps to minimize the risk of the spread of COVID-19, such as testing students immediately before departure from the host community and prior to their return. However, please note that voluntary COVID-19 testing (testing without any symptoms) is not covered by the AFS Travel Medical Plan and would need to be covered by sending parents/guardians.
